Product Description
Cutting-edge technology meets old-fashioned practicality in the Dualit Classic 2-Slice Toaster. The award-winning ProHeat system efficiently and evenly toasts the bread, while a manual browning dial and ejector lever put you in control. The chunky, retro

Amazon.com Review
Engineered in England and hand-assembled to the last detail, the Dualit 2-slice toaster is that ideal accomplishment--a hardworking kitchen appliance with an elegant presence. Its square-yet-curvy retro shape is undeniably handsome and its structural components withstand the rigors of a high-octane kitchen. In fact, the toaster can output up to 65 slices per hour, should the entire apartment building ever depend on you for breakfast or tea.

The key to Dualit's exceptionally even browning is the toaster's system of patented ProHeat elements, a series of flat bars behind a smooth, transparent coating. The result is an efficient, durable design, suitable for everything from brioche to sandwiches. The elements are encased by a rugged, stainless-steel housing that you may not even recognize as a relative of its lightweight, plasticky peers. Each slot measures 28 mm wide and is extra deep to allow for the use of the Dualit sandwich cage (sold separately). One adjustable leg accommodates uneven surfaces and rubberized feet protect your countertop.

The Dualit toaster has manually operated functions and is designed for people who like to engage with their appliances. Operation is simple but rewarding. A rocker switch selects 1- or 2-slice toasting, and a 4-minute timer knob lets you fine-tune browning time. Instead of a pop-up function that can prematurely cool toast, the unit comes with an ejector knob that you raise when you're ready for it. For bigger households or busy kitchens, the company also makes 3- and 4-slice models. All Dualit toasters come with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

1 out of 5 stars Objective Review   August 16, 2008

Like another reviewer, I waited a couple of years to form my opinion. This product looks sturdy and people love the "legend of the Dualit". One side comment is that I find it very amusing that a manual toast lever is considered a winning feature.

Anyway, back to my review. Bread does not toast evenly. After time, the problem only gets worse. No real way to easily clean the inside of the toaster.

Bottom line is I love this toaster. What else can I say about a toaster that cost $300. The toaster either works great or I am bloody crazy for spending that kind of money. I choose to love the toaster.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't make good toast? Oh, please...   May 16, 2005

I'm the ultimate kitchen fanatic. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and sometime professional chef, I know and want for myself the very best products that I can find. The Dualit definitely qualifies in that category. I've used one in my home for many years. When I was burgled recently, the toaster was one of the items taken. A thief with good taste!

The poor babies who complain that they cannot make good toast with a Dualit either have defective machines (rare, but all things are possible) or they are hopelessly inept. Week after week I produce slice after slice of perfect, evenly browned toast.

The Dualit is a superbly engineered, wonderfully crafted simple machine. It does precisely what you ask it to do; nothing more, nothing less.

If you have an appreciation for genuine quality and a palate that enjoys nicely toasted bread, this is the toaster you want.

We LOVE our new Dualit toaster. It is worth the money! It does toast more evenly if you warm it up first. We've had absolutely no trouble with it. We highly recommend this toaster!

I purchased Dualit two slice toater when it was special sale with $99- at Amazon without paying S&H and I am very happy. A week before the purchse, I got Cuisnart toaster CPT180 and I was totally unhappy with that flashy looking tin can of stainless brushed finish. I was alittle worried about the lack of thickness adjustment of Dualit but it does not bother as much as I feared. The intensity of the heat is enough to do the quick job that seems to seal the moisture in. In other words, toasts come out crispy outside and moist inside. This toaster reminds me of 90's Volvo 240DL and MBS SL that the factories spent so much money for besic structures and invisible foundation. Nothing fancy yet very honestly and massively made while it did not offer fancy looking or features. But there is a quality you can see and feel when you touch as the time goes by. I tend to appreciate that kind of sane build quality instead of number of features. (I enjoy hi-end 2 channel stereo sound a lot more than 6.1 channel surround. I paid several times more for the products but hey! being just normal is very expensive! That is the way it is!) The simple old fashioned ticking timer of Dualit works perfectly so much more than the electronic sensors. It does not offer the bells and whistles that cost less for manufactureres to make. This it very sane, normal product, built with conscience, and built to last. Too bad some people do not see the value of it. I like the product very much.
