| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description In the midst of a worldwide epidemic of autism, ADD, and ADHD, this book is a message of hope to parents embarking on the challenging journey of finding proper medical care for their Autism Spectrum Disorder children. Genetic susceptibility activated by "triggers" such as pesticides and heavy metals in vaccines can lead to immune system impairment, gut dysfunction, and pathogen invasion such as yeast and viruses in many children. This is the first book written by an experienced clinician that gives a step-by-step treatment guide for parents and doctors based on the understanding that ASD is a complex biomedical illness resulting in significant brain malnutrition. Dr. McCandless, whose grandchild with autism has inspired her "broad spectrum approach," describes important diagnostic tools needed to select appropriate treatment programs. Her book explains major therapies newly available and identifies safe and effective options for parents and physicians working together to improve the health of these special children. Now in a second edition, the book has new material and includes an index.

This book explains it all! October 11, 2008 Donna Higley This is the first book I read when my son was diagnosed at age 3 and I'm so glad I did. Although there are many great books about various therapies available (and I do think therapy is important), the medical problems autistic children have are very real, and with proper treatment can greatly improve their outcome. The GFCF diet is essential and the book explains the science behind it. Read this with an open mind. It may not be a cure for everyone but if you want to do the most you possibly can for your autistic child this will start you in the right direction.
Great book!!! October 3, 2008 GFCFSF yay! (chicago) I've just started the GFCF diet, and an attempt to understand what goes on with future treatment, and this book is great!!!
Really helpful book! September 16, 2008 Maria Vanessa Foss (maria) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read a lot of books about autism. This one has been by far the most helpful one!
Excellent! September 15, 2008 ASG, Texas (SA, Texas) This book is a must-read for any health professional and parent involved in the care of a child with ASD or related disorder. I would urge all pediatric gastroenterologists to read this - the biochemistry will make sense to you!
Defeat Autism Now Practitioner Review September 5, 2008 S A (Lee's Summit, MO, USA) I am a new DC and also certified in the Defeat Autism Now! Biomedical Intervention. I have just received the book and really enjoyed the chapter on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. I think it is spot on and very concise. I have included mHBOT in my clinic and after reading Dr. Neubranders chapter as well as several other books I am very excited to see it added here. This book is required reading in my office especially for new parents.Susan Anschutz, DC, Lee's Summit Mo
