not just for gf anymore! July 27, 2008 N. Barnes (San Francisco) I love this cereal. Have gotten all my non-gluten free friends hooked on it so we can share the big order. Healthy, and not to much sugar.
Avoid GM Corn, Eat healthy June 27, 2008 L. Russell (Kyoto, Japan) I have been tested and I am not allergic to wheat, but I have learned to listen to my body and I know for a fact that wheat makes my joints feel achy. As a result, I eat gluten free products as much as possible so I can indulge ocassionaly in pizza since here is no wheat free pizza available.
Having said that, I bought this cereal in December for the first time and I really liked it. I spruced it up with nuts, half a banana, and blueberries etc for that extra nutritional kick. I have no kids but it is not bland so I think kids would like it too.
As for the calories, I live in Japan where fried food and sweets are abundant calorie counting would be disasterous. I can't count calories, I really do prefer to walk, do yoga and pilates (I have achy joints so I need to excercise), avoid red meat, and eat everything else in moderation. If you find this has too much calories, then pairing it with fat-free or soy milk instead of regular milk may help, use lightly steamed veggies to cut back on carbs from bread/rice during the day, or substituting an apple or celery sticks for a snack may help you stay within you caloric range for the day.
I gave it 4 stars for one reason though. People who are truly allergic to gluten are depending on accurate information when they buy food. While eating this cereal didn't cause my joints to ache, it is produced in a facility that handles wheat, so I think it could be disastrous for someone with a real gluten allergy. In fact one reviewer did get an alleegice reaction. That is not good.
All in all I like this cereal, it is organic, it has no wheat for the most part, and it has no GM (genetically modified) ingredients.
Contains gluten and it will make you sick if you are a celiac December 7, 2007 C D (Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I consider this product mislabeled as gluten free. The cereal box states on the label that it is processed in a facility that contains wheat even though the cereal itself is "gluten free". There was enough gluten in the cereal to cause me to react to it. The amount of gluten in this cereal is low, but it's effect on me was cumulative. After eating it for several weeks, I was having a whopping reaction. It tastes great, and it was with sorrow that I had to put this on my banned list. After getting off the cereal my reaction resolved and I'm doing better again. Great taste isn't worth feeling terrible.
Healthy and delicious tasting November 30, 2007 Evelyn J. Schulte (Genoa, Ohio USA) I ordered this product on the advice of a friend that had eaten it. I am so happy I did because this is a very healthy cereal and good tasting also. Sometimes you just have to jump in and try on the advice of a good friend. Being celiac, sometimes we are limited on products and this is certainly a great choice. I am also sharing with a friend and hope she too will choose to buy some of this.
